Jacob Amaya gets promoted to Triple-A
The No. 19 prospect in the Dodgers system is now a step away from the majors
Jacob Amaya opened the 2022 season as one of the best hitters in the minor leagues for Double-A Tulsa. In the first 31 days of the season, he slashed .351/.473/.797 with 7 homers, a 1.42 BB/K ratio, and 208 wRC+.
This was a bit of a surprise, after he played the full 2021 season in Double-A and had the worst offensive season of his career, putting up just 75 wRC+. His glove is always a constant though, and his great defense at shortstop was enough for the Dodgers to add Amaya to their 40-man roster this offseason.
Since the hot start, he has cooled off with a 76 wRC+ since May 8th, but the Dodgers feel that at 23 years old he is ready to take the step to Triple-A. Zach McKinstry has been the shortstop for Oklahoma City in most games, but he has already been called up to Los Angeles multiple times this year, so there should be plenty of innings at shortstop for Amaya with his new club.
